In May 2006, A Million Freds Productions will premiére two plays at Strindberg's Intima Teater in Stockholm. "Lovers" by Irish playwright Brian Friel and a new English translation of "Krig" ("War") by Lars Norén, adapted by American playwright Rebecca Gilman. Both productions to be directed by Mick Gordon.

People in love and soldiers in wartime are not bound by the rules of fair play. Brian Friel’s lovers are divided into winners and losers. In "Winners" youthful passion is preserved by poetic death, while in "Losers" true love is consigned to the comedic purgatory of compromised marriage. In Lars Norén’s "War", poetry turns brutal as victims become aggressors and children become helpless. Taken together, the plays are a formidable study of what we need to feel human. Most of the British/Irish/Swedish artistic team have worked together before - notably on A Million Freds Productions production of Pinter’s "Betrayal" in Stockholm – winner of the nummer.se magazine Readers’ Award for Best Production in 2003.

ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR...?

"Lovers"

"Lovers" by Brian Friel consists of two parts. In "Lovers: Winners", the lovers are a young couple preparing for their final school exams and their imminent wedding. The girl is pregnant. Although they promise each other happiness, their deaths by drowning save them from a more likely destiny. In "Lovers : Losers", the lovers are older than in 'Winners', but their passion, at first, is no less real. It is their marriage that brings its share of compromises and unhappiness.

About Brian Friel

"War"

"War" by Lars Norén deals with the story of a mother and her two teenage daughters, who have been left to fend for themselves during a war. When the husband finally returns, broken and blind after several years of soldiering, he is no longer the obvious Pater Familias and the leader of the community. His brother, who remained at home during the war, seems to have taken his place in more ways than one, and in the shadow of war, a relationship drama takes place.
